Many Brownsburg crashes happen on I-74 between the Green Street and Ronald Reagan Parkway exits, on Main Street (U.S. 136) heading east toward Indianapolis, or on Green Street (State Road 267) between the interstate and downtown. If you got hurt in one of those spots, here's what usually happens next and who you'll be dealing with. You don't have to come to an office. We can do your consultation by phone or video, and you can sign up by e-signature.

Where Brownsburg crashes tend to happen

I-74 crosses the south side of town with two exits close together. Exit 66 drops you onto Green Street (SR 267), which is lined with hotels, gas stations and drive-throughs. Exit 68, about 2.8 miles east, is the Ronald Reagan Parkway interchange, and the land along that stretch is mostly warehouses and industrial parks. So you've got semis getting on and off the interstate all day, merging with people trying to get to work on time.

A few spots come up again and again:

  • The SR 267 ramps at Exit 66. Traffic backs up onto the ramp at rush hour, and a driver coming off the interstate at 60 runs into a line of stopped cars he didn't expect.
  • Ronald Reagan Parkway at Exit 68. Box trucks and semis heading to and from the warehouses share the road with people driving to the Brownsburg hospital, which sits right off this exit.
  • Main Street (U.S. 136) through downtown and east to the county line. East of town it turns into Crawfordsville Road, a busy commuter route into Indianapolis with lots of turning traffic and business driveways.
  • Green Street north of downtown toward 56th Street. Every new subdivision adds more left turns onto a road that wasn't built for this many cars.
  • Race weekends at Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park. Event traffic fills Main Street and the county roads around the track with out-of-town drivers who don't know the area.

Who writes the crash report

It depends on where the crash happened. Inside town limits, it's usually the Brownsburg Police Department, 31 N. Green Street. Out in the unincorporated parts of the county, it's the Hendricks County Sheriff's Office in Danville. On I-74 itself, the Indiana State Police often take the report. Brownsburg police say on their website that you can buy a copy online through a third-party service. Our crash report guide walks you through it. Get that report early. It's the first thing the insurance company reads. If it's wrong, you want to know while memories are still fresh.

Where people get treated

Two full emergency departments are close by. Hendricks Regional Health Brownsburg Hospital is at 5492 N. Ronald Reagan Parkway, just north of I-74 at Exit 68. IU Health West Hospital is about 15 minutes south of downtown Brownsburg at 1111 N. Ronald Reagan Parkway in Avon. Hendricks Regional's main hospital is in Danville. What I would tell you is this: if anything hurts, get checked out the same day. We see it all the time. Someone feels sore but fine, waits a week to see a doctor, and then the adjuster says, "Well, if you were really hurt, you'd have gone in right away." That gap is one of the first things they'll point to.

Where a Hendricks County case is filed

If a Brownsburg injury case goes to court, it's usually filed in the Hendricks County courts at the courthouse, 51 W. Main Street in Danville, in the Circuit Court or one of the Superior Courts. Sometimes Indiana's venue rules let a case be filed in another county, depending on where the people or companies being sued are located.

What we handle for people in Brownsburg

In Hendricks County we handle semi and commercial truck crashes, often on I-74, and falls at stores and businesses along Green Street and Main Street. We also handle car, motorcycle, pedestrian and bicycle, dog bite, and wrongful death claims. In a truck case, the trucking company's insurer usually has someone on it within a day or two. Their job is to protect the company, not you. So the truck's data and the driver's logs need to be requested fast, before they're gone.

Indiana deadlines to keep in mind

Most Indiana injury lawsuits must be filed within two years (IC 34-11-2-4). If a government vehicle or property was involved, say a Brownsburg town truck or a county road crew, written notice is due within 180 days for local government or 270 days for the State. Under Indiana's modified comparative fault rules (IC 34-51-2), your damages go down by your share of the fault. You're barred from recovering only if your fault is greater than everyone else's combined.
