Plainfield sits where three busy routes meet: Main Street (U.S. 40), Interstate 70 on the south edge of town, and State Road 267 running north and south between them. Add the warehouse district out by the airport and Ronald Reagan Parkway, and one afternoon commute can put a family sedan next to dozens of loaded trailers. Here's what's different about a Plainfield injury claim. You don't have to come to an office. We can do your consultation by phone or video, and you can sign up by e-signature.
What the town's own crash study found
Plainfield hired engineers to look at a possible new link between I-70 and U.S. 40. Their corridor report reviewed town crash records from January 2016 through October 2019 and counted 1,236 crashes on the roads and intersections it covered. Here's what stood out:
- Main Street (U.S. 40) at SR 267 had more crashes than any other intersection studied: 166 over those four years.
- SR 267 at Hadley Road was next with 78, followed by I-70 at SR 267 with 74.
- Rear-end collisions were the most frequent type at 37%. Run-off-the-road, sideswipe, and turning crashes each made up roughly 15 to 18%.
- The report says most of the fatal crashes in the study area happened on I-70, where speeds are highest.
The town's Thoroughfare Plan lists growing freight and truck traffic among residents' top concerns, and it names U.S. 40 at Ronald Reagan Parkway, U.S. 40 at Center Street, and SR 267 at Hadley Road for future fixes. These figures are several years old, and the town keeps growing. Read them as a map of known trouble spots, not today's totals.
Trucks, warehouses, and the airport side of town
Ronald Reagan Parkway runs along Plainfield's east side and links I-70 with the distribution centers near Indianapolis International Airport. SR 267 carries traffic from I-70 north through downtown toward Avon. A crash with a tractor-trailer isn't like a fender-bender. The trucking company, the shipper, or a maintenance contractor may share responsibility, and federal rules on driver hours and inspections can come into play. Electronic logs and dash-camera video can be overwritten. That's why it helps to ask early for them to be preserved.
Crash reports from Plainfield police
The Plainfield Police Department is at 1075 W. Main Street. The town says a copy of a crash or incident report costs $5. You can request one through the town's JustFOIA records portal, in person on weekdays (8:30 a.m. to noon and 1 to 5 p.m.), or by mail with the report number, a money order or business check, and a self-addressed stamped envelope. The records branch number is 317-838-3565. Crash reports are also sold online through BuyCrash. Outside town limits, the Hendricks County Sheriff's Office (925 E. Main St., Danville) usually responds. On I-70, it may be the Indiana State Police. See our crash report guide. When your copy comes, read it. Make sure the location, direction of travel, and your own statement are right.
Emergency care near Plainfield
Ascension St. Vincent Plainfield runs a 24-hour emergency department at 2412 E. Main Street, a few minutes east of downtown. IU Health West Hospital in Avon, at 1111 N. Ronald Reagan Parkway, is roughly 15 minutes north. Hendricks Regional Health's Plainfield Medical Center on Southfield Drive has an immediate care clinic with set daytime hours. It isn't an ER. Whiplash, concussions, and back injuries often feel minor on the day of a wreck. Get seen anyway. A doctor visit creates a record that ties your symptoms to the crash date.
Where a lawsuit would be heard
Lawsuits over Plainfield crashes are usually filed with the Hendricks County Circuit or Superior Courts, at the courthouse on West Main Street in Danville, about a 20-minute drive northwest. Sometimes Indiana's trial rules on venue allow another county instead, for example where a company being sued is based.

Claims we handle for Plainfield residents
We take semi and commercial truck crashes, car accidents, falls at stores and businesses, motorcycle crashes, pedestrian and bicycle injuries, dog bites, and wrongful death cases. If you were struck from behind in stop-and-go traffic on Main Street, keep in mind that Indiana requires drivers not to follow more closely than is reasonable and prudent (IC 9-21-8-14). Fault still depends on the facts. And the insurer may argue that you share some of it.

Deadlines that apply
Indiana's general deadline to sue for personal injury is two years from the date of the crash (IC 34-11-2-4). If a town, county, or state vehicle or property was involved, a written tort claim notice is required much sooner: within 180 days for a local government and 270 days for the State. Under Indiana's comparative fault statute (IC 34-51-2), any share of fault assigned to you reduces what you can recover, and if your share is more than 50% you recover nothing.
